A Whole New World

I don't think I have ever been so challenged as an art student.  This semester taught me about creating things completely from my head.

An example would be perspective. I have drawn from life before and drawn cityscapes from life but never had to make up my own. In 2 classes so far,  I have had to create perspective from my mind. For my digital art class, Visual Literacy 2, I am doing a Fractal World/Landscape and I started off by using shapes derived from nature and recreate create them in illustrator by using only font and minimal pen work.

This project was a huge pain for me at the beginning because I felt like I had to be exact and know 100% what I am doing the whole time.  I learned that sometimes, an artist must let loose and not think too much about a composition. I came up with my current draft after 3 class periods (3 hours each) and I am so proud of the outcome!!!  It was not easy though. I went through a series of maybe 4-5 shape compositions that I hated.

This is my first draft from last week that I hated and was getting very stressed with.

This is my final shape landscape that will help in my next step of my project!
