First Animation Ever!!

I think it is appropriate when creating my first animation to include my favorite fandom.  This is a Weight and Tension project that is in the works for my Intro to 2D Animation Class.  It is baby Princess Leia picking sneaking her "dads" blaster.

Matilda

The movie and book, Matilda has always been one of my favorite movies since I was a kid.  She was an inspiration to victims of loneliness.  This movie and specifically this quote has always helped me find an escape from this cruel world that we live in.  If ever you feel lonely, don't let it control your relationships.  Don't let it consume you just like Matilda never did.

Summer Slackin

Hey guys!  I have been mega mega lacking on posts and I am very sorry.  I have been traveling and moving around constantly over the past 2 months.  I have done some sketches and t-shirt designs for my Red Bubble account but no illustrations.  I am starting a few new projects to experiment some different paint and paper techniques so hopefully I can get those started soon.

In the mean time, here is a sketch of my dream location, The Shire

Get Inspired!!

GET INSPIRED!!!! USE REFERENCE!!

It is always a good idea to keep general inspirations of photos and drawings.  Whether it is on your folder in your computer or using my personal favorite, Pinterest! You never know when you are going to use inspiration photos!!  I personally look at inspiration photos and drawings before doing big projects!  An example would be my love for Ireland and its nature.  I actually used them! For my Final for Visual Literacy 2, we have to present one of our projects and tell the class what inspired our artwork! At the bottom is what how my reference images helped produce the end product of my project!

Dinner with Pixar and ACCAD

Thursday night, I had the most amazing opportunity to join the animation heads of CCAD and have dinner with Mike Altman, a technical director at Pixar (CCAD Alumni) and Maria Palazzi, the Head of ACCAD at OSU! It was such a blessing to be able to get to know these two amazing artists and get to know more about the animation industry!

CREATE

Hello Everyone!

Have you ever just wanted to create something that you know in the back of your head just seems impossible?  Well the back of your head is wrong.  Creating is the most important thing anyone can do in any career field.  Whether it is being an artist, a lawyer, a doctor, a teacher; creating will be your guide to building a better career goal.

Create is my favorite word because of how inspirational that word can be when doing anything.  For a contest, the theme that I had to draw about was incredibly vague so I summarized the theme to one word, CREATE.  Here was the result!

The reason why I chose this specific digital drawing is because when I imagine CREATE, I think of an artist in their studio working their heart away while doing something they love.  I made the character very normal because whether it is a college student or a Disney Animator, they are both working very hard to achieve their goal of creating.

A Whole New World

I don't think I have ever been so challenged as an art student.  This semester taught me about creating things completely from my head.

An example would be perspective. I have drawn from life before and drawn cityscapes from life but never had to make up my own. In 2 classes so far,  I have had to create perspective from my mind. For my digital art class, Visual Literacy 2, I am doing a Fractal World/Landscape and I started off by using shapes derived from nature and recreate create them in illustrator by using only font and minimal pen work.

This project was a huge pain for me at the beginning because I felt like I had to be exact and know 100% what I am doing the whole time.  I learned that sometimes, an artist must let loose and not think too much about a composition. I came up with my current draft after 3 class periods (3 hours each) and I am so proud of the outcome!!!  It was not easy though. I went through a series of maybe 4-5 shape compositions that I hated.

This is my first draft from last week that I hated and was getting very stressed with.

This is my final shape landscape that will help in my next step of my project!

Flight at Midnight

Hey guys!  Sorry I have been MIA on the blog.  Busy busy bee!  But anyway I want to show you guys a new technique in photoshop animating!  I did it using a gouache paint from Kyles Brush Sets. If you have never used his brush sets, they are amazing and he makes many different kinds.  More info go to his website https://www.kylebrush.com.

Flight at Midnight is a warm up to practicing rotoscoping for my experimental rotoscope final project so I practiced two new techniques.  I hope you enjoy!

A Little Dreamer-COMPLETE

I have been working very hard on this sticky-note stop motion animation and I think it is one of my most creative ones revolving around storytelling so far!  It is about what our dreams and aspirations can be from childhood to adulthood.  Remember when you wanted to be a mermaid as a little girl?  Remember surviving off of coffee in the morning in high school but it would created crazy dillusions in your dreams if you had it too late at night? And remember dreaming of that career you have always wanted?

In a way, this story is a lot like mine.  Childhood seemed like the most magical moment in my life, high school felt slow at the beginning but zoomed by when junior year hit and I was more than ready for art college to start and my dream career is to be a professional animator and one day own my own traditional animation light-box!

Yeah, go check it out on my youtube channel!!

Stop Motion Concept Art

The Little Dreamer. The story of dreams and how they change throughout our lives. From when we dream to be mermaids to the big dream of living in New York City to retiring on a beach with our loved one.

Character Design is for the little girl near the beginning of the animation.

Pen Work and Form

Doing a study of some So You Think You Can Dance dancers when I am taking a break from school work.  Love drawing girls doing ballet and alternative.

This piece I drew while on a city bus on the way to the mall.

I have also started trying to stop using pencil when sketching and using only using pen.  I recommend it for any artist who is trying get better when it comes to cafe sketching or practicing figure drawing.  It forces an artist to not be sloppy when sketching it out but also it is really fun to simply let your pen flow.

These Are Not The Droids You Are Looking For

It has been so long since I could just sit down and sketch for fun!  And what better way to spend my sketching then 2 of my favorite droids!  If you haven't seen Star Wars, go have a marathon and then see the Force Awakens in theaters because they are amazing! Also, you will understand my love for these droids when you see them!  Ladies and Gents, I give you R2-D2 and BB8!
